William Hague to be Foreign Secretary

WILLIAM Hague will be Foreign Secretary in the newly former Conservative and Lib Dem Government.

The Rotherham-born Tory MP returns to the political frontline comes almost a decade after he quit as party leader.

A new National Security Council will meet later today to discuss Afghanistan, which Mr Hague has identified as the top priority in his new job.

Mr Hague took a lead role in the post-election talks with the Lid Dems, which saw him described as the “chief marriage maker” of the deal which eventually formed the new Government.

He has been MP for Richmond since 1989 and his last Cabinet position was as Welsh secretary for John Major’s Government.

David Cameron appointed him Shadow Foreign Secretary in 2005.
