Wildlife Trust creates ‘Natural Neighbours’ in Eastwood

PUPILS planted trees in Eastwood as part of a “Natural Neighbours” project aimed at improving green spaces.

The Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust organised the outdoor sessions with Year 3 and 4 youngsters from Eastwood Village, Coleridge and St Ann’s primaries, and young volunteers from Clifton Learning Partnership.

They have adopted the trees, which were supplied by Rotherham Council and planted at the Eldon Road Recreation Ground.

Anna Mayo, community wildlife assistant with the trust, said: “The pupils came down to help, and also planted bulbs around the trees and played games.

“The tree-planting sessions were organised as part of the Natural Neighbours project which aims to bring together communities to make improvements to their local greenspaces.

“It focuses on four green spaces in Rotherham: Eldon Road Recreation Ground, Boston Park, Winterhill Park and Sandhill Park.

“More improvements such as a small wildflower meadow and a new path are planned for Eldon Road Recreation Ground over the coming months.”
