Whiston driver in ‘serious’ condition after being car-jacked by armed gang

A DRIVER was attacked with a metal weapon by “a group of unknown men” who made off in his white Mercedes last night (Sunday).

The 25-year-old victim was taken to hospital with a life-changing arm injury and remained in a serious but stable condition this morning.

The car-jacking occurred in East Bawtry Road, Whiston, at around 10.50pm yesterday (Sunday),

It was reported that the victim was travelling alone in the white Mercedes when he briefly pulled over close to the junction with Lease Gate Road.

“As he got out of his vehicle, it was reported that he was approached by a group of unknown men and attacked with a metal weapon,” said a police spokeswoman.

“The men, who got out of a dark-coloured vehicle, then left the scene in the victim’s Mercedes.”

An investigation is underway and officers are currently following a number of lines of enquiry including reviewing CCTV and house-to-house visits.
