Rt Rev Dr Pete Wilcox, who was installed as the eighth Bishop of Sheffield on Saturday, called in at St Peter’s Church in Conisbrough during his 50-mile prayer pilgrimage.

He was welcomed by St Peter’s vicar Rev Martijn Mugge and answered questions at the church.

Rev Mugge said: “We probably had about 50 people or more from Conisbrough and Kilnhurst as well as from wider afield.

“The format was very informal, with an interview in which I asked Bishop Pete various questions.

“The bishop was very animated, open and honest in his answers and it was wonderful to get to the know the man behind the label.

“After the interview we went across to the Community Rooms for refreshments and then waved him off to catch the train back home to Sheffield.

“The following morning, I met him at Conisbrough station for 9am to pray and then to wave him off for the next part of his pilgrimage.”
