Wheelie bin prank puts lives at risk

Arsonists put lives at risk with a wheelie bin prank over the weekend.

On Friday night,  a wheelie bin was pushed up against the door of a property in Masbrough and set alight.

A crew from Rotherham station attended College Road at about 10.30pm.

No-one was hurt and a spokesman confirmed the incident was arson.

Meanwhile, a woman in her 20s and her three-year-old child escaped a house fire on Saturday evening.

They were alerted by smoke alarms and treated for smoke inhalation as firefighters attended Hawksworth Road in East Herringthorpe.

Crews from Rotherham and Maltby stations were at the scene for an hour from about 6.20pm.

A fire service spokesman said the blaze had been accidental.
