KIVETON PARK INDEPENDENT ADVICE CENTRE: A drop-in session, with no appointment necessary, will be held on Tuesday 4-6pm at Wickersley Library. To contact (office hours) 01909 773966.

 

SECOND NATURE LIFE SUPPORT: Wickersley Parish Council and Second Nature Life Support, the charity that created Winthrop Park, have come together to ensure the site on Second Lane remains an asset for the community, and the gardens open for local people. On February 25, Second Nature Life Support transferred ownership of Winthrop Park to Wickersley Parish Council, and donated to them all the outbuildings, equipment and facilities they created on the site to ensure long-term benefit for the public wanting to enjoy nature therapy. Second Nature Life Support is continuing its work through its Outreach initiatives and enabling of other projects across South Yorkshire, and the parish council will now run Winthrop Park. WICKERSLEY METHODIST WIVES GROUP: The group met on February 8 when president Mrs Margaret Baldry opened the meeting. The planned speaker could not attend and a games evening of, dominoes, snakes and ladders, scrabble and jenga was held. Raffle – there were two winners. 

 

ANDANTE SINGERS: The singers met for their choir practice in preparation for their supper and song evening on March 19 at Wickersley Community Centre. The theme for the evening will be All at Sea with Andante.  Tickets £10 and will include a fish and chip supper. Practices will continue each Thursday 7pm in Wickersley Methodist Church.

 

WICKERSLEY TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD: February’s meeting was at The Barn, Wickersley. Treasurer Marilyn Lawton gave a financial statement. Secretary Shirley Hall read out the correspondence and won the raffle. The speaker was Felicity Wright, a local author, who explained her background and what prompted her to start writing. The next meeting will be the AGM on March 24 when it is hoped there will be an auction to raise funds.

 

ST ALBAN’S CHURCH: Preparations are under way for the Charity Spring Fair in church on March 12 10am-1pm. The fair will be officially opened by centenarian Beryl George who lives in the village. She has nominated the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as the chosen charity this year.

WICKERSLEY PROBUS CLUB: Members and a visitor met at the Barn recently to hear speaker Peter Davies talk about experiences as mayor of Doncaster from 2009-13. 

 

SURGERY TIMES: Cllr John Turner, who represents the Hellaby ward on Rotherham Council, holds a surgery at Wickersley Library and Community Centre, Bawtry Road, on the first Tuesday of each month 5.30-6.30pm.

 

COUNCILLOR SURGERY TIMES: The three ward councillors for the Wickersley ward – Sue Ellis, Emma Hoddinott and Chris Read – normally hold four local advice surgeries each month. These are private meetings between councillors and local residents. First Saturday of month 10-11am at Wickersley Library and Community Centre, second Friday of month 6-7pm at Bramley Parish Hall, third Tuesday of month 9.30-10.30am at Mark Grove Community Centre, fourth Monday of month 6-7pm at Sunnyside Community Centre. www.wickersleyward.org.uk
