Weight problems putting Rotherham folk at risk of diabetes

HIGH levels of obesity and deprivation have been blamed for Rotherham’s higher than average rate of diabetes.

Six per cent of people over the age of 17 in the borough of Rotherham suffer from the condition compared with 5.6 per cent in comparable areas.

The figures are revealed in the Diabetes Community Health Profile published by NHS Rotherham.

Weight problems are indentified as a particular factor in increasing the risk of the disease, which is thought to double to the risk of death of people aged 20 to 79.
