Wath students set to do battle in debating contest

STUDENTS from Wath Comprehensive School are preparing their arguments for the regional finals of a top schools debating competition.

The teams will take part in the Institute of Ideas’ Debating Matters competition at the University of Leicester tomorrow.

They will be tackling questions such as whether or not the government should support the biofuels industry and should the Uk have a referendum on membership of the European Union?

The debaters will be grilled by an audience of fellow students, members of the community and an 'X-factor  style' panel of expert judges.

At stake are £500-worth of books from Hodder Education for the school library and a place at the national final of the competition, a three-day residential event in London taking place at the end of June.
