Water safety event this weekend to funds in memory of tragic teenager Sam Haycock

FRIENDS and family of tragic teenager Sam Haycock are organising their first fundraiser and a water safety awareness day this weekend.

Sam (16, pictured) died after getting into difficulties in Ulley Reservoir while visiting the beauty spot with friends to celebrate leaving Oakwood High School at the end of May.

Members of the Remembering Sam: Sam’s Army Mission Facebook group will be selling raffle tickets and offering water safety-themed colouring sets at Rother Valley Country Park from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday.

Officers from South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue will be issuing advice and leading water rescue demonstrations.

Sam’s parents Gaynor and Simon, of East Dene, are keen to raise awareness of the risks of open water and raise funds to provide new safety equipment.

A sponsored walk is planned for September 11 to bring in more cash.
