Waste centre closure plans passed

EACH of Rotherham’s four waste recycling centres will be shut one day a week, saving the council more than £26,000 a year.

The Cabinet agreed on Wednesday (4) to cut opening hours at the Greasbrough, Bramley, Rawmarsh and North Anston tips.

Cllr Richard Russell, Cabinet member for waste and emergency planning, said: “At this moment in time, we’re working out which will close on which day.

“All of them will definitely stay open on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.”

Contractors FCC Environment will avoid compulsory redundancies by freezing two currently vacant positions.

The previous plan had been to close Bramley and Rawmarsh on two days a week, leaving the others unchanged.
