Warrington sees his chance

ANDY Warrington says he will leave nothing to chance now he's back between the sticks for Rotherham United.

Scott Shearer's injury pain has been the 36-year-old's gain, offering a chance to become the team's number one again after playing second fiddle so far this season.

A clean sheet at Aldershot on Saturday and another winning display at the New York Stadium against Morecambe on Tuesday night is a good start and now Warrington wants to stay as the number one despite feeling great sympanthy for his rival and sparring partner.

"It is good to be involved. You want to play games," he told the Advertiser. "You've got to grab your chance when it comes but I feel really, really sorry for Scott because I think he has been playing really well.

"I'll just try and take my chance and we'll stick together. I know it's a cliché, but I'll take it game by game. Before I probably took my place for granted sometimes but now I'm a little bit more mature and there is more competition."

With Shearer out for five to six weeks, Warrington has a prolonged run in which to stake claim and he can count on the backing of his closest rival.

And manager Steve Evans promised: "If Andy keeps clean sheets and keeps us winning then he'll stay in."
