Warne tips former loanee for bright future ahead of Shrewsbury clash

PAUL Hurst won’t be the only familiar face to Millers fans when table-toppers Shrewsbury travel to the AESSEAL New York Stadium tomorrow.

Striker Carlton Morris could line-up against the side who took him on loan from Norwich for the second half of last season.

Morris was one of Rotherham boss Paul Warne’s first signings during the January transfer window just under a year ago and although his spell with the Millers was hampered by injury, Warne is aware of the threats he poses for tomorrow’s visitors.

Morris has made 17 appearances, including nine league starts for the Shrews this term, finding the back of the net six times. He failed to score in eight outings for the Millers last season.

But despite his barren spell in South Yorkshire, Warne knows his fortunes have improved while in Shropshire, and believes that if he plays, he will be a handful.

Warne told the Advertiser: “I think he’s doing alright for them. I really liked him, the only problem for me was he just wasn’t mobile enough.

“Whether he has got a bit more mobility because he has played a bit more this year than last year, I don’t know.

“Carlton has definitely got qualities as a target man and a hold-up man, he’ll have a good career.

“Under Hursty’s tutelage I think he’ll improve.”

Former defender Mat Sadler, who joined the Millers in 2014 under Steve Evans, is also in the Shrewsbury squad.

Meanwhile, Warne has told the Advertiser that 23-year-old Hull right-back Brian Lenihan has been on trial with the club this week, and that there in no truth in speculation linking skipper Lee Frecklington with former club Lincoln.
