War veteran (81) "distraught" after FA Cup medal theft

AN 81-YEAR-OLD war veteran is “distraught”, “devastated” and “heartbroken” after burglars took his late wife’s jewellery and an FA Cup winners’ medal won by his granddad in 1912.

Burglars ransacked Keith Moxon’s Moorgate home on Friday night, taking jewellery including his late wife’s wedding and engagement rings.

The medal (pictured) belonged to the Rotherham Town, Rotherham County and Barnsley player Phil Wright Bratley, who helped Barnsley win the 1912 FA Cup.

Keith’s granddaughter Jessica Moxon (24), of Swallownest, described how the heinous raid had changed Keith.

“My granddad is distraught. He can’t even think straight or put into words how he feels,” she said.

“He’s usually so active and outgoing, but now he’s scared to leave the house. Whoever has done this is just deplorable.”

Jessica hopes someone might be offered the unique medal with her great-great-granddad’s name engraved on it, or a sapphire ring with two small diamonds.

Police urge anyone with information to contact 101, quoting incident number 849 of March 17.
