AN ADORED family cat who went missing almost a year ago gave the Jones family the surprise of their lives when he wandered back home this week.

Now the delighted family is asking if anyone knows where Woody has been for the last 12 months.

The Joneses, of Wickersley Road, Broom, had given up hope and feared the worst for the four-year-old Tabby, leaving youngsters Kelsey (13) and Joshua (10) devastated.

But out of the blue, looking a little fatter and with a chip in his tooth, Woody wandered back up the garden path on Monday and back into the arms of his family.

Graham Jones (41), said: “I’m a big softie and Woody is part of our family, so when he came home we were all ecstatic but totally in shock as well.

“It’s definitely him. We checked his markings and he’d had an operation on his leg so we knew what to look for.

“He’s a little nervous about going out but other than that he’s just like his old self. He sits on the fence chatting to me like he’s never been away.

“We still can’t believe he is back.”

Woody, who is named after the golfer Tiger Woods, disappeared in February last year and despite leaflets and posters being displayed in the area, there was no news.

Graham, his wife Tracy and their two children feared the worst for their beloved five-year-old tabby.

“We realised something was wrong immediately because he would always come straight away when you called him,” said Graham.

“I can’t imagine where he’s been. It is possible that someone has kept him in their house, but a year is a hell of a long time.

“When it’s cold, lots of cats climb into the engine bay of a car and it’s also possible that Woody did that, fell asleep and the car was driven away.

“When it’s stopped, he’s climbed out and found his way home, but how I don’t know. He must have a good homing instinct.

“We have no idea at all where he has been and if anyone can help piece his journey together, we would be really interested,” Graham added.
