MULLED wine and music will be the order of the day at Roche Abbey just after Christmas.

The festive fun, which features Christmas walks and a carol service, takes place on Monday, December 28, which is a bank holiday.

Heritage Inspired, South Yorkshire's faith tourism initiative, has organised three guided walks leaving from the historic churches of Maltby, Laughton and Firbeck which all meet up at the atmospheric abbey for mulled drinks, mince pies and carol singing before participants walk back again.

And walkers are in for a treat as Thurcroft Welfare Brass Band will provide the music.

The walks will start from Laughton All Saints' church at 9.45am and Maltby St Bartholomew's and Firbeck St Martin's Churches at 10am.

The carol service starts at about 11am. The event is free and all refreshments are provided.

Everyone is welcome and anyone who does not want to walk can just join in the festivities at Roche Abbey.

A collection on the day will be taken, with proceeds going to Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, and to book a free place, e-mail [email protected] or telephone Rotherham Visitor Centre on 01709 835904.
