Representatives from the school attended a ceremony in London last week when they were presented with their awards by broadcaster George Alagiah.

Gareth Hughes, the school's international dimension co-ordinator, said: "It is an honour to be given this award which reflects the hard work that everyone in the school does to promote the international dimension."

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, the International School Award is at the heart of the British Council's work with schools to help give young people cultural understanding and skills.

This year, 700 schools across the UK have been presented with the award which is also given to schools in India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Lebanon, Cyprus and Pakistan.

To receive the award schools must create an international ethos throughout the school, a majority of pupils must be involved in international work, schools must forge links with partner schools and the community and international work must take place all year round.

John Rolfe, manager of the International School Award, said: "The rich range of work being done at Wales to support and encourage global citizens with a greater understanding of the world around them is truly fantastic."
