Vulnerable women helped by group's £10K grant

A NEAR-five-figure cash influx has helped a youth group help young women find work and tackled anti-social behaviour issues.

Brampton Youth Group received £9,734 in funding from the Coalfields Community Investment Programme delivered by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

As a result of the funding, the organisation was able to employ sessional workers challenged to addressing health and wellbeing issues through programmes and workshops.

A CRT spokeswoman said: “Following a series of pilot groups and working with young people to identify issues which need addressing, Denise Lelliot and Steven Saunders, who run the youth group, pursued the funding available from the programme, which supports organisations and initiatives that tackle three priorities for action — employment, skills and health.

“Providing tailor-made workshops, which focused on stress management and relationship advice, Brampton Youth Group was able to reach out to young women in the local area and provide them with the help and support they needed.

“By working with the police, Brampton Youth Group was also able to highlight further issues which affect women in the local area.

“Anti-social behaviour was found to be an ongoing challenge but thanks to the funding progress has been made to combat these issues.”

Ms Lelliot, youth development manager at Brampton Youth Group, said: “The funding received from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust has helped to provide valuable support for young women.

“By working with local residents and in particular reaching out to young, vulnerable women who face problems in their day to day lives, we have been able to provide them with the support and guidance needed.”

Andy Lock, head of operations (England) for the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, said: “Brampton Youth Group provides valuable support for women living in the Rotherham area.

“Prioritising the health and wellbeing of young residents is of utmost importance and we are pleased to see that the funding has helped the youth group to extend their remit further and to make a positive contribution that will have a positive impact on people's lives.”
