The Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity has seen fundraisers support its cause for more than 20 years — but now an official group is being formed to push its aspirations forward.

Mike Smith, chair of the charitable funds committee, said: “Our ambition is to raise more money than ever before to enable the charity to invest in projects which benefit patients of all ages and those who are dealing with a range of health conditions.

“Our new members will be instrumental in helping us to achieve this and we are really looking forward to getting started.”

Anyone is welcome to get involved with the group, including members of the public, Trust staff or businesses.

Responsibilities would include organising collections and events, raising awareness about the charity and its campaigns, supporting events and developing community links.

The charity is looking for proactive people with good communication and organisational skills who can commit to a few hours a month, including a monthly meeting at the hospital.

Mr Smith said he hoped group members would be able to use their local knowledge to optimise fundraising opportunities, while inspiring the community to support the cause.

“There may be opportunities to take on lead roles within the group and we hope it will be a rewarding role where members feel they are helping the charity to do more for our patients,” added Mr Smith.

Three drop-in sessions are being held for anyone wanting to find out more about the group.

One session will be held today (Wednesday, November 6) at Rotherham Hospital’s community corner from 11.30am to 1pm and other sessions will be held tomorrow (Thursday, November 7) in the hospital’s PGME foyer from 10.30am to 12.30pm and next Thursday, (November 14) at the community corner from 4.30pm to 6pm.
