Volcanic ash delays stop inquest

A HIGH-PROFILE inquest was halted this week when an important witness was stranded by the ban on UK air travel in the wake of the volcanic ash cloud.

The witness was due to give evidence on Monday at the inquest in Doncaster’s Mansion House on Kurdish factory worker Mahdi Abdullah Nadir Al-Jaf (32), who was knocked down and killed when he walked into the path of a lorry five years ago.

But the hearing, going into its second week, had to be adjourned until next Tuesday after the no-fly crisis hit airports.

As a result of the delay, the Mansion House was no longer able to accommodate the inquest, which will now resume in the Salvation Army building at Lakeside, Doncaster.
