Violent crime in sights of new £2.6 million police taskforce

A VIOLENT crime taskforce has been launched by South Yorkshire Police thanks to a £2.6 million Home Office grant.

The team of 25 will carry out high visibility patrols and high impact operations concentrating on hotspot areas and organised criminals, the force said.

Assistant Chief Constable Tim Forber said: “I want the people of South Yorkshire to see a visible difference now the task force is up and running.

“We know that visible neighbourhood policing is the best deterrent to criminals. We are aiming for increased patrols, more suspects detained and a high number of weapons seized.

“I have no doubt of what our taskforce can achieve over the next 12 months, however we do need help from the public.

“If you suspect anyone or can help identify those involved in crime in your community, please report information via 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
