Village's two deliberate fires in 30 minutes

TWO deliberate fires were started within half an hour at Goldthorpe in the early hours of today (Monday).

Firefighters from Dearne were called to Victoria Street shortly after 12.50am.

On arrival, they found a wheelie bin blaze was starting to spread to the ivy on a nearby boundary wall.

The fire was out by 1.15am — two minutes before they were called to a large amount of commercial and domestic rubbish which had been set alight at Main Street.

The rubbish appeared to have been fly-tipped, South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said, and the crew left shortly before 2am.

There was also a deliberate rubbish blaze at an allotment at Highfield Park, Maltby, at 9.14pm yesterday.
