Harthill Post Office, which is located within stationery shop Tanimara on Union Street, will close on Saturday (April 14) due to the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office usage.

Customers will have to travel two miles to Kiveton Park Post Office (which is a five minute drive or a 35 minute one-way walk) or three miles to Killamarsh Post Office (a seven minute drive or a one hour one-way walk).

Wayne Fitch, Post Office network operations manager, said the company was “working hard to restore services in the area” and was on the look-out for new retail partners.

Mr Fitch added: “We would welcome any applications from potential retail partners interested in running a branch locally on our behalf.

“The vacancy is currently being advertised on our website www.runapostoffice.co.uk and applications will be carefully considered.”

He added: “Looking after a nationwide network of Post Office services, we have a responsibility to make sure every service makes the best possible use of resources, while ensuring that customers can still access our products and services. I can assure you that we will continue to work to find a solution that will provide a Post Office service to the Harthill community."
