AN upbeat acoustic set by singer songwriter Julian Jones is set to be the latest live music in a tiny village hall with an oversized reputation for attracting top acts.

Around 80 people are expected to squeeze in to Letwell Village Hall to see the Sheffield-based musician who once opened for Oasis on his former guise as frontman for indy band Lazy Dollies and more recently supported Ray Davies as part of his UK tour.

Julian, whose sound is described as a mixture of pop, indy and country music, will appear at the hall on May 19.

He will be joined by Darren Ford on drums, Chris Firminger on lap steel and Shaun Perry on bass.

The appearance of Julian and his band is the latest coup for the sleepy village hall which has attracted acts ranging from Doncaster rocker John Parr to North East folk sensations, The Happy Cats, in the past.

Event organiser Martyn Sharpe said: “Julian has a really upbeat style that always leaves an audience with smiles on their faces.

“A lot of the tickets have already been sold so we’re sure that this is going to be another great night of music for the hall.”

Tickets to see the Julian Jones band at Letwell Village Hall are priced at £12 and can be bought from Martyn on 01909 731626. Doors open at 8pm.
