IT might be one of the oddest reasons for being late for work but here is the proof for anyone whose boss won't believe them.

Commuters heading into the town centre this morning (Tuesday) faced delays for the most bizarre reason — a swan was blocking the road.

The distressed swan was in the middle of Corporation Street close to the junction with Ship Hill at around 8am.

Police and the RSCPA were called and had to move it to the pavement.

Traffic is now flowing as normal.
