The collision between an orange FTM motorbike and a car happened at around 2.45pm on Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman said that the motorcyclist, a 22-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision and remains in hospital receiving treatment this morning.

Firefighters helped paramedics stabilise two casualties who were "conscious and breathing," a spokesman said.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said one patient was transferred to Northern General Hospital.

Police closed the road while crash investigators worked, causing rush hour tailbacks and diversions.
