VIDEO: Howard Webb awarded Freedom of Rotherham

WORLD Cup final referee Howard Webb was today awarded the Freedom of Rotherham.

A special ceremony at the Town Hall saw him bestowed with the accolade for his services to sport and charity.

Cllr Stone said: “We are very proud that Howard has agreed to accept this honour, which admits him to a select group of highly-regarded individuals who have done so much for this town and borough.

“There is a lot more to this passionate Rotherham United supporter than just football and being a referee.

“He is the sort of man who, despite busy work and family commitments, has also made a massive contribution to charity.

“Over the years he has worked tirelessly for local causes and has given his time freely for many charities, such as the Bluebell Wood and Phys-Cap for disabled children in Yorkshire, both of which I know really appreciate his patronage.”
