VIDEO: Horrific crash for Rotherham racer

THIS is the moment that biker Chris Hellewell smashed into his team-mate at 100mph — and amazingly both men were able to pick themselves up and carry on racing.

Chris was competing in the Thundersport Golden Era championship at Donington Park and in yesterday’s third race of the weekend he’s seen - via his helmet cam - hitting Sparklight team colleague Adam Darnell at full speed after the latter slid off just metres in front of him on the notorious Craner Curves.

Both bikes were wrecked but astonishingly both Chris, from Whiston, and Adam, from Dorset, were back in the saddle later in the day.

Said Chris: “It really was carnage. He came off in front of me and there was nothing I could do and I ended up flying through the air.

“Thankfully neither of us was seriously hurt but I’ve got plenty of bangs and bruises. It hurts, I can tell you!

“We both decided the best thing to do was go out for the last race of the day on our other bikes - and I ended up finishing fourth!”

Chris was back at work this morning in Rotherham but he now faces a hefty repair bill before the next round at Snetterton at the end of next month.
