Video games festival leaving Magna

GAMES Britannia, Rotherham’s pioneering video game and digital art festival, is moving out of town next year.

The week-long event, which has been held at the Magna Science Adventure Centre, will move to Sheffield Hallam University next year.

The festival has been part of the Rotherham Children’s Festival, which is moving to the New York Stadium next year and will be held in a different format.

That has meant that Games Britannia has had to find a new home.

The event was the brainchild of Brinsworth Comprehensive teacher  Mark Hardisty and this year featured 54 workshops and talks attended by almost 1,000 school pupils, as well as careers advice sessions and a keynote speech by industry pioneer Ian Livingstone.

It was named best educational initiative of 2012 at the national TIGA Games Industry awards recently.
