The crusher at Wallis Metals in Goldthorpe claimed the Saab 93 after it was seized by Barnsley Council in an investigation into illegal waste and the owner failed to produce the correct documentation needed to claim it back.

Regulations allow councils to confiscate vehicles thought to have been used to fly-tip, collect waste without a licence or hand rubbish over to an unregistered waste carrier.

The tipper in this case, who has not been named, will be brought before magistrates.

Cllr Jenny Platts, the council’s cabinet spokesperson for communities, said: “We’re taking a tough stance on the minority of people who think fly-tipping is acceptable.

“As part of our #EverybodyThink campaign to protect the environment, we're using CCTV to identify those responsible for illegal fly tipping — we’re watching you, Dumpit and Scarper!”
