VIDEO Behind scenes at £4m fire station

A “FIRST class” fire station began serving its community today as a new £4 million facility opened on time and under budget.

The new Dearne Station, at Manvers, will become a leading light through community link-ups and training firefighters, fire bosses say.

“The project has gone extremely well,” said Andrew Stevens, SYFR head of asset management. “It’s a major development for the fire service and represents more than £4 million investment.

“The plan was to complete phase one, having the station operational, by April 1, and it’s quite an achievement to have done that in today’s climate.”

Dearne Station boasts community and training rooms, a gym and locker facilities, 12 beds and a multi-faith and study room.

Four watches of 14 will be based at Dearne—plus 17 retained firefighters who live within five minutes of the station, on Manvers Way.
