The video — filmed by reader Andy Carr — showed the lorry passing through Doncaster Road on its way to Immingham Docks, Lincolnshire on Saturday.

Mr Carr said the lorry’s load - understood to be known as a cracker tower - was equipment designed for the oil industry and the trailer had 128 wheels.

Before the spectacular load began its journey South Yorkshire Police warned people of a “very large and slow-moving load” which would be escorted from Kilnhurst, through Conisborough, Doncaster, Bawtry and Blyth and then onto Lincolshire.

A spokesman said: “Due to its size and weight — six metres wide, 40 metres long and 240 tonnes in weight, it can only travel at 20mph.

“This may cause traffic hold-ups along the route so please be patient.”

The police said the load was too high for bridges, could not travel at height as other companies were needed to move street signs, phone lines and power cables, and took its journey on Saturday because it was due to be shipped the following day.
