Starting at All Saints Square around 1.20pm, walkers will do a lap of the town centre before returning to the square for refreshments and a chance to network with fellow volunteers.

Rotherham has almost 50,000 volunteers, who give time and energy to good causes each week.

VAR’s Big Walk forms part of the Count Me In campaign, which celebrates and encourages volunteering around the UK from June 1 to June 7.

Julie Adamson, VAR services manager, said: “You are never too old or too young, never too busy and everyone has something to offer to volunteering.

“It is a great way of giving back to your community and gives you the feel good factor that other things often don’t.”

She added: “It is important for us to celebrate the unsung heroes who give so much to our town.”

To join the event, volunteers can call Alison Thorp on 01709 834462 or email [email protected].

The deadline for bookings is Friday 2nd June. For more information visit www.varotherham.org.uk/big-walk-2017.
