VANDALISM on the railway line means no trains currently calling at Rotherham Central station this morning.

Engineers were on site carrying out repairs amid severe disruption to services for passengers on the morning commute.

A Northern Rail spokesperson said: “Due to a theft of the signalling equipment in the Rotherham area, trains between Meadowhall and Swinton in both directions are being diverted and are unable to call at Rotherham Central until further notice.

“Network Rail staff are on site carrying out repair work.”

One rail user posted on Twitter: “Not again... problems at Rotherham Central happening too often in that area.”

Some services may run non-stop between Meadowhall and Swinton, the firm added.

Travel South Yorkshire said Tram-Trains were unable to run between Tinsley and Parkgate.
