Van and pile of tyres torched by arsonists

A VAN and a pile of tyres were destroyed by arsonists over the weekend.

Firefighters from Aston station were called to Innovation Way, Fence, at 2.45pm yesterday and tackled the van fire using a hose reel, a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

Firefighters left the scene at 3.05pm, she added.

The tyres were set alight in Back Lane, Nether Haugh, on Friday at 11.20pm. A crew from Rotherham station attended.

A fire also broke out in the engine of a small vehicle in Mexborough in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Firefighters from Dearne Station were called to Arnold Crescent at 1am to tackle the accidental fire and were at the scene for 20 minutes.
