Vaccination sites up and running this week

FIVE coronavirus vaccination sites are due to be up and running by the end of this week — and Rotherham should take delivery of the new Oxford jab next week.

The two latest vaccination venues are Rawmarsh Practice and Oak House, the clinical commissioning group HQ in Bramley.

They join Anston Medical Centre, St Ann’s Leisure Centre and Montgomery Hall in Wath.

Ian Atkinson, executive place director for Rotherham CCG, said: “From this weekend, we should have five Covid-19 vaccination sites delivering the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

“We expect the first batches of the Oxford vaccine to likely arrive in Rotherham next week, but it is currently unknown how many doses this will include.”

Around 3,000 people in Rotherham have already received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The rollout of the Oxford vaccine means more people will be vaccinated in a quicker, more effective way — and those living in care homes will finally be able to start receiving the protection.

Those in the top four “priority” groups will receive their Covid-19 vaccination first. This includes care home residents and carers, everyone over 70, health and social care staff and the clinically extremely vulnerable.

Mr Atkinson said the CCG was following national guidance, with jabs to be given as soon as possible and the second dose due within 12 weeks.

He added: “Your GP practice will contact you when it is your turn.

“Please be patient. We are working our way through everyone who needs the vaccine and you will be contacted as soon as possible.

“All vaccines are delivered on an appointment-only basis and we ask people to arrive only at their allotted time.

“There has been a massive effort put in by Rotherham, with the area playing a part in the biggest vaccination programme the country has ever seen.
