UPDATE: Fatal Swallownest flat fire 'was accidental'

THE cause of flat fire in Swallownest where a man died on Wednesday has been determined as accidental.

Investigators said the blaze started in the living room and involved smoking materials.

Three fire crews tackled the fire after being called to Gray Avenue at 11.30pm.

Speaking today (Friday), a fire service spokeswoman said: "The cause of a fire in which a man sadly lost his life on Wednesday is thought to have started accidentally.

"The fire started in the living room of the property and is believed to have involved materials used for smoking." 

Fire investigators are now preparing their findings for the coroner, she added.
