UPDATE: CCTV image released after Goldthorpe police car arson attack

A CCTV image of a man police want to identify has been released after two police cars were deliberately set alight on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the fire outside Goldthorpe Police Station at 2.10am on April 1. Two response cars, a council van and the side of the police station were all damaged in the incident. 

Det Insp Mick Allat said the "reckless and irresponsible act" has taken two operational police cars off the roads and would cost around £26,000 to replace.

Officers want to identify the man in the CCTV image who they believe could hold important informaiton about the arson.

“Thankfully no-one was injured but this was still an incredibly serious incident and we are working hard to identify those responsible," Det Insp Allat added.

“As part of that work, I would like to ask for your help. Do you recognise the man in the CCTV image? We believe he may hold important information.

"Did you see or hear anything suspicious in the early hours of Monday morning?"

Call 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously quoting incident number 56 of April 1.

Three men, aged 35, 18 and 33, were arrested in connection to the incident but have sbeen bailed as enquiries continue.
