TWO car thieves have been given community orders and told to do unpaid work.

Connor Burgin (20), of Hardwick Street, Dalton, and Kieron Scholey (19), of Oldfield Road, East Herringthorpe, admitted taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

They were sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court last Monday.

Burgin, who also admitted a theft offence, was disqualified from driving for six months and was given a three-month community order.

He was told to do 100 hours of unpaid work and was given a three-month curfew.

Scholey was given a three-month community order, a curfew and was told to do 40 hours of unpaid work.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to offences of robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and theft, and the pleas were accepted by the prosecution.
