Unoccupied house fire and transit blaze incidents in the Dearne Valley

AN EMPTY house and a transit van were torched in arson attacks over the bank holiday weekend in the Dearne Valley.

Crews from Dearne, Adwick and Barnsley stations were called to a fire on Lancaster Street in Thurnscoe at 2am on Sunday.

The fire at the unoccupied property had caused damage to the kitchen and living room, a spokeswoman from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

"Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to put out the fire," she added.

"The fire is thought to had been started deliberately." 

A crew from Rotherham fire station was called to Carr Head Lane in Bolton upon Dearne at 10pm on Sunday.

The crew dealt with a transit van blaze, which had been started in a field.
