Two rubbish fires in the Dearne Valley overnight

HOUSEHOLD rubbish and garden waste were torched in two separate incidents in Goldthorpe last night.

Firefighters from Cudworth were called to Victoria Street at 7.33pm.

They found a metal drum, containing household rubbish, well alight in a ginnel, said a South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman.

The crew left the scene just before 8.20pm.

A pile of garden waste on fire in an alleyway saw firefighters from Edlington being called to Beever Street, at 1.26am, added the spokesman, and was dealt with by 1.44am.

"Both fires are thought to have been started deliberately," the spokesman said.
