Two new goalkeepers close to joining Rotherham United but no bid on table for Matt Crooks

ROTHERHAM United expect to bring in two new goalkeepers early next week - and have yet to receive an offer for Matt Crooks.

The midfielder who has blossomed to become one of the most prominent members of the squad since arriving from Northampton Town earlier last year has attracted outside interest, confirmed manager Paul Warne, but the enquiry was not backed up by an official bid.

Warne expects to solve his goalkeeper problem early next week by signing a new number one and an understudy ready for the start of the season.

"Without wanting to tempt fate, we have two goalkeepers close to coming in," he said.

"We have a permanent goalkeeper virtually signed and a loan keeper should join us after the weekend.

"After that we will concentrate on finding some fire power.

"I am looking for another striker/wide man/number ten, someone who can play in all those positions. That helps me no end.

"I also want a central midfielder and we are still a bit weak in the left-back spot."

On Crooks, Warne said the club was under no pressure to sell and although he did not expect anyone to leave, every player, "even Lionel Messi," has his price.

"There has been no offers for my players, just a couple of phone calls asking about their availability," he said.

"As always, unless there is actually an offer on the table there is nothing to consider.

"Every player in the world is available to someone at a certain price but nothing has been put in front of me."

Freddie Ladapo

The Millers have a few injury niggles in camp.

Matt Olosunde pulled his groin and is out for two to three weeks. Freddie Ladapo hurt his ankle and needs a scan. He should be back in no more than two weeks.

Kyle Vassell, Jake Cooper, Michael Ihiekwe and new signing Kieran Sadlier also have minor issues.

As reported earlier, Rotherham kick off their league season away to Wycombe Wanderers on September 12.
