Two men killed in crash on M1

TWO men in their 20s were killed in a collision on the M1 on Easter Sunday.

A white VW Golf was travelling northbound between junctions 30 and 31 just before 7.30pm when the accident happened.

The driver is believed to have lost control, police said, causing the vehicle to leave the carriageway and hit a barrier and several trees before coming to rest on its roof.

Men aged 22 and 20, both from Sheffield, were pronounced dead at the scene. Both families are being supported by officers, the force said.

The road was closed for about nine hours. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved.

South Yorkshire Police’s serious collisions unit has appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage.

A spokesperson said: “We are asking any witnesses to the collision, or anyone who witnessed the Golf prior, to get in touch.
