Two men jailed for hate crimes

TWO men have been jailed for separate hate crimes committed in Rotherham.

Connor Shaw (26), of Larch Mews, East Dene, and Paul Osbourne (25), of Holme Court, Goldthorpe, both appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Shaw was convicted of a racially aggravated public order offence and assaulting a police constable in May. He was also convicted of stealing dresses worth £216 from Yella Brick Road in Rotherham and failing to appear at court last month. He was imprisoned for 34 weeks and given a two-year community behaviour order for the offences.

Osbourne admitted to theft from a shop and a racially aggravated public order offence, which happened last Thursday. He was jailed for ten weeks and ordered to pay £115 to victim services.

PC Chris Nicholson, hate crime officer for Rotherham, said: “Any kind of hate crime will not be tolerated.

“I hope that this sentence sends out a clear message that anyone found to be committing any kind of hate crime will be dealt with."
