Two in 'life-threatening' condition after Whiston smash

TWO men are fighting for their lives in hospital after a head-on collision near Whiston this morning.

A blue Nissan Micra was travelling on Pleasley Road towards Aughton when it crossed to the other side of the road and collided with a silver Vauxhall Corsa.

The Micra driver, a 44-year-old Sheffield man, suffered a broken leg and back and a severe head injury.

The 24-year-old Corsa passenger, from Rotherham, sustained abdominal injuries. Both men are in a life-threatening condition, police say.

The Corsa driver, a 19-year-old Worksop woman, was also taken to Rotherham General Hospital with minor abdominal injuries, cuts and bruises.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, at 12.20am and a few hundred yards from Reservoir Road, is urged to call South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020 quoting incident number 13 of August 16.
