Two held over garage break-ins

POLICE investigating a spate of garage burglaries in Swinton have arrested two men from Doncaster.

The arrests of the men, aged 25 and 26, follow a new wave of thefts from lock-ups in Prince Street, St John's Road, Grange Road, Piccadilly Road, Toll Bar Road and Fitzwilliam Street on Monday.

Similar break-ins on St John’s Road and Fitzwilliam Street two weeks ago sparked a police investigation and an appeal for information.

Thieves destroyed padlocks with a crowbar and an angle grinder to access the garages, taking golf clubs and other items.

Cllr Ken Wyatt had described the crime spree as “very worrying” and raised the issue at an Area Assembly meeting on Monday.

Posting on Facebook the same evening he said: “Good news is that hopefully the police have got a result.”

Police are continuing with enquiries into the break-ins and ask anyone who witnessed them or has information about them to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote reference 286 of November 14.
