Two flee as arsonists attack home

FIREFIGHTERS and police were called to a property which filled with smoke after a burning object was pushed through a letterbox.

Crews from Rotherham and Darnall fire stations dashed to Finlay Road, Eastwood, at around 10.30pm last night.

Two people were evacuated after the property became smoke-logged.

Both escaped without injury and police officers are now investigating the incident, believed to be a deliberate attack.

A police spokesman said: “It is believed that an object was pushed through the letterbox, causing the house to fill with smoke.

“Two people were in the property at the time and nobody was injured.

“Police are treating the incident as deliberate at this stage, and want to hear from anybody who may have information about who is responsible.”
