Two car fires within hours on M18

TWO car fires took place on the M18 motorway on Saturday morning.

Fire crews were called out at 6.50am to put out a blaze in a car on the southbound slipway linking the motorway to the M1 at Aston.

A fire service spokeswoman said that the cause of the fire — which took just under an hour to bring under control — started “accidentally”.

At 8.50am, a car fire spread to grassland on the M18 southbound between junction two at Loversall and junction one at Bramley.

Two fire crews spent 40 minutes at the scene.

The spokeswoman said the car fire started accidentally.
