Two arrested after New Year’s Day murder in East Dene

POLICE who launched a murder investigation into the death of a man in East Dene in the early hours of New Year’s Day have made two arrests.

A 26-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were arrested in London on suspicion of murder after the man was found unconscious in the street and later pronounced dead at the scene in East Dene.

Police attended the scene on Doncaster Road at about 1.20am, and cordoned off a large section of the major road close to the junction with Oak Meadows.

Officers also shut a section of Badsley Moor Lane cordoned off near the junction with Victoria Avenue in relation to an incident of public disorder. 

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “This is now being treated as a murder investigation.” 

Formal identification of the victim is yet to take place.

Enquiries are continuing and police are expected to issue an update later today.
