Two arrested after motorcyclist dies in Edlington collision

TWO men have been arrested on suspicious of causing death by dangerous driving after a motorcyclist died in a collision in Edlington yesterday (Monday).

The motorcyclist (32) was travelling along Edlington Lane towards Five Lane Ends at 9.30am and while he was passing the junction at School Walk his Triumph motorbike collided with a silver Peugeot RCZ travelling in the opposite direction, a police spokeswoman said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and his family are being supported by specialist officers, she added.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 41-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and driving while unfit through drink or drugs, the spokeswoman said.

The 58-year-old driver of a third vehicle, a black BMW saloon, was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

Both men have now been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

The spokeswoman said police had spoken to a number of witnesses but asked that anyone with information, especially those with dashcam or CCTV footage of any of the vehicles, contacted the police.

The spokeswoman said police were particularly keen to trace the driver of a dark-coloured taxi, who they believe saw the vehicles prior to the collision.

Information can be passed to the police through 101 quoting incident 198 of April 12.
