Twin awards for Bramall Construction

A HOUSING firm is celebrating doing the double after winning two awards for its eco-friendly and affordable housing.

Wath-based Bramall Construction won the accolades at the South Yorkshire and Humber Building Excellence Awards.

The contractor was crowned winner of the Best Social or Affordable Housing Development award and was highly commended in the Best Sustainable Project category, both for a development of new homes at Newhill Road, Barnsley.

The Newhill Road site was built on behalf of Yorkshire Housing, in partnership with Bramhall Blenkharn Architects, BGP Engineers and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

The development consists of 58 properties, equipped with eco-friendly measures, such as solar panels, low energy lighting and increased insulation, designed to save money for residents.

David Morley, construction manager at Bramall, said: "Winning these awards is a real achievement. The hard work of the team at Bramall and our partners has really paid off and we are proud that this has been recognised.

"Over time, we expect residents of Newhill Road to see real savings on heating and energy bills. Hopefully, we have now set a standard for other developments to follow."

The awards, organised by Local Authority Building Control (LABC), were held at the Forest Pines Hotel, near Scunthorpe.

All builders and developers undertaking projects across the region were eligible to enter.

Projects were judged on a range of criteria, including Building Regulations, accessibility, sustainability and client or customer satisfaction.

The Newhill Road site will now be entered into the National LABC Building Excellence Finals, to be held in London later in the year.
